Beginnings

I began experimenting with photography at the age of eight.

My formal education as a photographer began at Brooks Institute, in California, where I studied both film and fine arts photography.

Over the years, I have lugged cameras and lenses to more than 50 countries, and amassed a trove of favorite images, many of which can be found on this web site.

The Photographs

I’m drawn to wide open spaces and minimalist landscapes as well as urban settings crammed with juxtapositions of shapes, patterns and people. Black and white remains my favorite medium.

While digital technology constitutes a growing part of my creative work, I continue to shoot large and medium format film. I can’t explain it, but, for me, film produces the most pleasing imagery- much the same as a vinyl record still yields the finest, purest sound to the ear of an audiophile.

I often shoot film and create digital files from the negatives, combining the best of the old and the new.  Other times, I prefer to shoot a scene entirely in digital format.

Selected Awards

The International Aperture Awards, the Epson International Pano Awards, the Photography Masters Cup and the Black & White Spider Awards.
